In late 2010 an adult learners song-writing group in Fintry took part in a visioning exercise for Dundee (and beyond!) using the aims of Dundee Wave of Change as their starting point. The session was facilitated by an adult learning worker from Dundee City Council and supported by a song-writing tutor. The visioning process consisted of a series of four exercises designed to stimulate thinking about Dundee’s future from a community perspective and to generate Dundee-related themes for use in subsequent song-writing activities. The output from the visioning exercise was used to inspire the creation of lyrics, poems, songs and artwork.
Following this successful event the group used some of their regular weekly sessions in 2011 to write lyrics and poems and to compose songs under the banner of the Dundee Wave of Change project. The project concluded in May 2012 with a filming session which captured the performance of songs and poems by the group for the Dundee Wave of Change web site.
The main members of the group were Michelle, Walter, Victoria and Nan. The group was supported by Alan Fraser from Dundee City Council’s Adult Learning team and tutored by Dundee singer/songwriter Eddie Cairney.
