Hot Chocolate Trust: my future Dundee

Young Peoples Future Dundee

Hot Chocolate Trust took a Dundee Wave of Change theme for their easter programme with young people April past, and did some amazingly creative stuff!

The screen print image above was one of the outcomes of the two week time of creativity.

The full report as a PDF can be downloaded here if you want to see it.

So, what did they do?

During Easter 2010 Hot Chocolate connected with the Dundee Wave Of Change
initiative, giving young people creative outlets to share their stories about their city
and their communities, and to re-imagine what’s possible for Dundee in the future
and where their role might lie in making their dreams a reality. Creative and varied
methods were embraced (discussion, drawing, screenprinting, photography, cooking,
songwriting) to help facilitate conversations across the broad diversity of young
people. Much of this is qualitative. Because of this, it is hard to draw statistically
significant information, however the information that has been gathered is rich and
deep.

What follows is essentially a scrapbook, memento, manifesto of sorts, showing the
approach, processes and stories involved in nurturing a dialogue and vision around
our place and future in our city. Sometimes it’s hard for the young people to get
beyond the negatives of their often difficult current situations and we’ve tried with
integrity to be honest to the range of answers and opinions shared. Out of the midst
comes some really interesting dreams and often surprising insights which have
begun to open up a discussion and narrative that will no doubt continue to be shared
and reflected upon as these young people journey towards making their future a
reality. Enjoy…
